Making The Most Of The 2020 Holiday Season by Cindy Stradling CSL, CPC
There is no doubt that 2020 is a year that will stand out in your memory. Throughout the year, people have struggled with stay-at-home orders, working from home, homeschooling kids, challenges with getting grocery and personal items, and of course, the tragedy of the loss of lives through the COVID-19 pandemic.
This holiday season is going to look different than holiday seasons in the past. Some, if not most, families will likely choose to celebrate the holidays in their own homes, foregoing big gatherings and get-togethers at least for this December.
There is some good news to consider, even in these challenging times. It is possible to turn the focus from what is different to how we can all enjoy our favorite parts of the holiday season by tweaking old celebrations and looking for new ways to connect.
Using Technology
If you have been working from home or using technology to stay connected to friends, family, colleagues, employers, employees, and clients, one more Zoom meeting may not be something to celebrate.
However, Zoom offers a free way to connect everyone in the family, regardless of age, location, or technology expertise. The simple format makes it easy for anyone with a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone to see and hear their loved ones and friends.
Plan a family and friends night and encourage everyone to dress in their worst holiday sweater, or have them save a gift to open with the whole group. You can also play games on Zoom, like virtual holiday bingo, allowing individuals or teams to engage in some fun and laughs.
Make It Meaningful
Knowing in advance the family and friends are not gathering, now is the perfect time to get started on old fashioned holiday cards. This is a wonderful way to share a personal message with each individual, reaching out to those close and far away to let them know how much you care.
Everyone in the household can participate. There are low-cost options for personalized holiday cards you can design online and have delivered to your door. There are also virtual holiday cards that offer animation, music, and a personalized message.
Get in the Holiday Spirit
This year has been difficult for everyone. The holidays are a perfect time to decorate the house, apartment, or office and add some cheer. While some things are very different this holiday season, there are still favorite traditions we can continue to honor and enjoy.
